Early this month I showed an alpha build of Arms of Telos at a local LAN event called FADECON and it went great! I brought a server (iMac was super convenient for that, though I got a ton of flak for 'bringing a mac to a LAN'), passed out a build of the game, and they played a few matches with shout-casting provided by TastySpleen.
In my last blogpost, I talked a bit about the difficulty in showing an indie game like Arms of Telos at expos like PAX. While I'm still interested in finding a solution to that problem, I'm thinking it's also a good idea to target big LAN events -- perhaps try and host a tournament or just pass out copies and let people play. Quakecon is an obvious one. I think some of the PAX events have a BYOC area, but so far I haven't had any luck talking to them about organizing anything. The recently announced TwitchCon is also something I'm keeping an eye on. I've been a bit out of the loop, so I'm not sure what other big LAN events are out there nowadays.
Anyway, I hope to bring the game to more of these kind of events as the game development gets farther along.
