While affected by gravity you'd be able to direct your jump by the way you're looking with your mouse and which directions you're pressing on keyboard. So if you were moving forward and released jump you would do a shallow jump forward and pick up speed touching the ground again.
If you were holding right and forward you would do a dodge like jump ahead of your direction and right picking up speed.
Releasing jump and pressing no movement commands would launch you straight upward and maintain momentum if timed properly.
Basically you'd be holding down the jump button indoors and releasing it to dodge/maneuver and not holding it in 0g unless on spider surfaces.
